Over 35s Cup Semi Final

Inter Kenmare 7-5 Park F.C.

Inter had a tough one on Friday night, with a semi final against no.1 ranked team, the Park. Park started well, ripping the Inter defence to shreds and going 3-0 up, with 3 good passing moves. Things looked bad, but Inter got stuck in, and got a goal through Ken O'Sullivan before conceding one more to go 4-1 down. Things looked bad, but Jason Taylor started the fightback with a goal from a tight angle. Just before half time, Conor McSwiney forced home a goal to make it 4-3 at the break. At hal time, manager Jimmy O'Sullivan made a switch, moving Yves Souly into goals, and releasing Alan O'Sullivan out the field. This proved to be the winning of the game, Yves was super in goals, and Alan O'Sullivan made two goals for Ken O'Sullivan and scored two himself. Inter ran the show in the second half, conceded one just before the end but won confortably. Team: A. O'Sullivan, C. Vaughan, C. McSwiney, J. Daly, D. O'Neill, K. O'Sullivan, Y. Souly, A. Whitehead, A. Murnane, M. Hussey, J. Taylor. Manager, Jimmy O'Sullivan.

Over 35’s League Cup

Inter 5-5 Currans

Inter had a heroic fight back from 4-1 to get out of Mounthawk park on Friday night, with Adrian Whitehead (2), John Daly, Conor McSwiney and Timmy Clifford getting the goals for Inter. This really was two points dropped, with Currans being reduced by a man after a red card. Inter had numerous chances to get a winner but couldn’t. The most influential player ofor Inter was Adrian Whitehead, with two excellent goals, while the best player on the pitch was the Currans striker, DD Rahilly, who scored 5 and gave every Inter defender nightmares (and bruises). Hope we don’t see him again…

Inter went ahead but still managed to lose this one, going down 4-3. Jason Taylor got two of Inter’s goals, and was the best player on the night

Over 35s Group Phase, Mounthawk, Tralee

Inter Kenmare 6-2 Garda

Inter Kenmare handed out asound beating to An Garda in Tralee in the first group game of the over 35s Cup. Inter with a new-look side this year had an easy start, as the opposition were depleted and missing some of their big names. Inter did start slowly, but near half time Ken O'Sullivan scored twice to start things off, before Ben Van Der Venter launched a screamer into the top corner from 20 yards.

Garda got one back before the half, but Inter soon finished things off with two more goals from Ken O'Sullivan (one was robbed off Conor McSwiney) and a goal from Jason Taylor. A good performance, and with some good players like Paul Cassidy, PJ Reidy, Mike Hussey, Dan Keane, Pat Twomey, Pat O'Connor, Mike O'Donovan and a few more all to make their appearances this season things are looking good for the over 35s.

Sat 5th June 2010

U15 Boys Cup Final

Inter Kenmare 8-3 Mastergeeha

On Saturday the 5th of June Inter Kenmare hosted the under 15 Kerry Cup final, and fortunately our team was in it. The venue for the final was decided at the start of the season, and our club were lucky enough to host this one, and to qualify for it. A great occasion saw a big crowd turn up to the pitch, with a full shop running and a great atmosphere on a lovely day. Everyone at the club worked hard to get the field and car park in order for the day, and a brilliant effort was made to get the clubhouse looking its best and to lay on food for players, supporters and the Kerry Schoolboys League officials.

The game itself started bang on 3.30, and at 3.35 Inter were two nil ahead. Brian Clifford intercepted the kick-off, ran half the length of the pitch and squared to give Brian Crowley the easiest finish he will ever get. After 5 minutes, Brian Crowley sent in a speculative shot that went all the way to the net for 2-0. Then after 35 minutes, Brian Clifford added the third goal with a great strike. Mastergeeha got one back in an amazing first half, and they had a chance to really get back into the game, but a lob landed six inches to the right of the post. Inter scored from the next attack, with a super turn and strike by Cian Hallissey. This left the score 4-1 at the break.

Almost straight after half time, Brian Clifford scored from a Gavin Crowley corner. Mastergeeha had a long throw specialist that sent a Rory Delap style ball all the way into the box, and they headed home to make it 5-2. Colm O’Sullivan made a long run from the back and set up Brian Clifford to complete his hat-trick. Mastergeeha got another goal from a long throw (a 50-yard throw!) to make it 6-3. At this stage the crowd were stunned, and Mastergeeha could possibly have made it back into the game, but Cian Hallissey tucked away the rebound from his own shot, and Gavin Crowley thumped in the final goal from 30 yards to leave the final score at 8-3 to Inter.

Colm O’Sullivan accepted the cup from KSL Chairman Lol O-Leary, and Denis O’Neill was awarded the man of the match award. This was a very popular decision, Denis is an excellent midfielder who picks out passes and keeps the team moving, but very rarely gets the credit he deserves. Jim Kennedy, coach of this team for the last number of years, was understandably delighted with the result. This is a great win for the club – winning a cup ahead of long established teams like Kingdom Boys and Killarney Celtic is great news.

The club would like to wish the players all the best in their upcoming Junior cert exams, and to thanks all concerned with the team and the organisation for the cup final.

The pictures of the team and the finals day are in the Under 15 Cup Album, click HERE to see them.

Tuesday 2nd June

Under 15 Kerry Cup Semi Final

Inter Kenmare 3-2 Kingdom Boys

Inter had a tough assignment against Kingdom Boys in this one. The Tralee side are one of the premier under 15 teams in Munster, and had a long run in the national cup this year, and they came to Kenmare in confident mood. The weather was lovely, with a good breeze blowing straight down the pitch, into Inter’s faces in the first half. Kingdom Boys started well, and set up camp in Inter’s half, and went one-nil up after 5 minutes, with a neat finish by their number 6. Inter had a chance on the break with a neat turn and shot by Brian Crowley, but it went just wide. Ten minutes before the half, Kingdom Boys went 2-0 up, with a cross and finish. At half time it looked like a big ask for Kenmare, but manager Jim Kennedy mixed some harsh words with some astute changes and Inter came out for the second half looking a different team. Cian Hallissey stormed into the game on the left wing. Gavin Crowley started to lord the middle of the pitch – he covered every blade of grass and won the ball back countless times. Denis O’Neill started to pull the strings with some nice passing in the middle, and the back four of Shane and Colm O’Sullivan, James Da Silva and Daniel Murnane got right on top of the Kingdom forwards. Ten minutes in, Gavin Crowley exchanged passes with Brian Clifford and hammered a shot in from 25 yards. Now Inter were on top, and Brian Clifford ran selflessly to block a clearance and leave Cian Hallissey in for a simple finish. 2-2. Kingdom Boys were stung into action, and they turned on the style. They hit the post, and we counted no less than 5 great saves from Jonny Breen in goals. The turning point in the game came with 10 minutes to go. Kingdom Boys attacked and their striker was clean through, but Colm O’Sullivan made the bravest tackle of the night, and Shane O’Sullivan cleared. Denis O’Neill got on the ball, and put Brian Clifford in, and he curled a beauty inside the right hand post. Now Inter had to hold out, and the defenders and ‘Keeper Breen did everything right to put Inter Kenmare u15s into the Kerry Cup Final. Kingdom Boys were very sporting in defeat, they had high hopes coming into the game but to their credit, they shook hands and took the defeat like men.

Park FC 1-2 Inter Kenmare

An excellent win on the roads for the A’s. Inter took the lead on the very first attack through Mike Hussey. Park equalised just after the half, but Steven O’Shea clinched the winner for Inter with ten minutes to go. Super result and a very valuable three points.

Friday May 14th

Over 35 International Friendly

Inter Kenmare 4-5 U.S. Maison (France)

Inter Kenmare's veterans team played an international challenge match on Friday 14th May against French opposition from, Maison, Normandy. This is the third such match as Kenmare hosted U.S. Maison in May 2008, with the score at 2-2, Kenmare visited Maison in March 2009, and again a 2-2 draw was played out. So the match on Friday was in effect the decider and a large crowd turned out on a lovely early summers evening to watch the old guard perform. The match was played in good spirits, yet with a keen competitive edge and Inter Kenmare, who dominated the initial exchanges, raced into an early lead through a fine solo effort from John Holland. However, U.S. Maison eventually settled into their rhythm and equalised with superb strike from midfielder, William. Their dominance continued and at half time the score was 2-1 to the French. Inter Kenmare reorganised during the interval but were slow to adjust in the early cut and thrust of a hard fought second half and fell 3-1 behind. However, there is a lot of experience and resilience in this Kenmare veterans team and they creditably clawed their way back into the match with a collectors item from Paul Cassidy, a fine rising 'left foot' strike into the top corner. Playing with passion and no little skill Inter levelled the match at 3-3 with a smartly taken opportunistic second goal from John Holland who capitalised on some dithering in the French defence. The game took on a renewed intensity as both sides searched for that second wind that would propel them to victory and it was the Irish who struck the next blow when Jim Shea won a penalty, which ironically, was deemed controversial by the French team. Nevertheless Declan O'Neil, Irish captain, stepped nervelessly up to take the penalty in the teeth of French protest and emphatically slammed the ball into the back of the net, giving Inter a deserved 4-3 lead. However, the perceived injustice seemed to fire up U.S. Maison and a gripping finale to the game ensued with Maison levelling from a free kick and finally grabbing a fortuitous winner as the ball bounced agonisingly around the Inter penalty box only to fall to a French foot to be slammed home into Inter's net.

A wonderfully entertaining match, played with good intensity and appropriate rivalry, finished 5-4 to U.S. Maison who picked up the 'Inter Kenmare - US Maison Challenge Cup', we will have to return to France next year to retrieve our trophy! The now traditional French and Irish 'Man of the Match' was handed out with the Irish award going to the competitive French midfielder, William, and the French award going to John Holland who worked tirelessly in Inter's engine room and grabbed 2 goals. All concerned had an enjoyable evening  in the clubhouse with plenty of food and refreshment, with Irish Stew from Jam and plenty of home baking, many thanks to all of those who provided food and refreshment, and sincere thanks to Kate Crowley Holland, Bridget O'Shea, Kim Kennedy, Noreen Murphy, Chris Morgan, Tessy O'Neil and Veronica Whitehead who worked extremely hard on the night to cater for 40 plus guests. Many thanks also to Gurt Kruis who refereed the match.  Inter Kenmare were represented by: Dan Keane, Jim Kennedy, Adrian Whitehead, Paul Cassidy, Donal Casey, Ben Van Deventer, John Holland, Jim Shea, Declan O'Neil, Jason Taylor, Derdi Casey, Aiden Murnane, Michael Hayes, John Daly.

Sunday May 16th

Senior Premier A

Inter Kenmare 1-2 Killarney Celtic

Table-toppers Killarney Celtic came to Kenmare on Sunday, looking to seal their place in the League playoff final. They did get the three points in this one, but really had to work hard for it. Inter had the better of the opening 30 minutes, with Connie Cremin, Sean Murphy, Donal Casey and Ger O’Dwyer all having efforts at goal without making the ‘keeper work. From an Inter corner just before half time, Celtic launched a quick counterattack and got through for a sickening lead goal.

Just after half-time the sharp Celtic strikers worked a one-two and got in for a second. This meant that Killarney could defend and try and pick off a goal on the break. Inter got well on top, and only a cynical couple of fouls stopped them from scoring early. With two minutes to go, Donal O’Sullivan-Casey thumped home from a corner to make it 2-1 but there really wasn’t enough time to get the second. Gary Cassidy in goals was probably Inter’s best player on the day, and Shane Dalton had a good day in midfield.

World Cup Competition

To celebrate the upcoming world cup 2010, Inter Kenmare are running a results-based competition for the duration of the World Cup. Tickets are on sale from May 21st from all club members, and the competition should definitely keep people interested in every game of the world cup. A ticket for €10 gets you a random combination of two teams. Then the teams results are combined, and there are 6 separate competitions like top scoring team, most yellow cards, most goals conceded etc. Results will be posted weekly on www.interkenmare.com, so you’ll be able to keep up to date with your progress. Look out for club members selling tickets and please do your best to support them.

International Friendly in Kenmare, Friday May 14th 6pm ‘till late !!

Inter Kenmare's veterans team are due to play a French veterans team called US Maison on Friday 14th May 2010, in part 3 of annual challenge cup.

The French team are from a small village in rural Normandy, near Bayeux, called Maison, hence their name US Maison.

They visited Kenmare in May 2008, and the score was 2-2, Kenmare visited them in March 2009, and again a 2-2 draw was played out. Inter Kenmare were given a wonderful reception in France with plenty of food, wine and the famed 'home made' local spirit, Calvados!.

So the game on Friday 14th May is effectively the decider, and of course a chance to avenge a certain hand ball!

Kenmare plan to return the hospitality in style with a meal served with refreshments at the club house followed by live entertainment in the Coachman's Bar, Henry Street, Kenmare.  James Mulcrone from Jam is providing the food, and is doing everything he can to help the club put on a great meal.

Kick Off is at 6pm on Friday the 14th, do your best to make it

Special Award for Michelle O’Connor

Inter’s Under 16 Goalie, Michelle O’Connor caught the eye of our club kit wear sponsor, Nick Broujos from Jako Sports in Sligo when she saved a crucial couple of shots in a penalty shoot-out during last year’s seven a side in Kenmare. Since then, Nick has been monitoring Michelle’s progress, and what a year she has had so far – playing for Kerry minors and under 16’s, as well as playing a crucial role for Inter’s under 16 team in their march to the league title. The picture below shows Charlie Vaughan presenting Michelle with a professional pair of goalie gloves on behalf of Jako Sports.

 U16 Girls win the league

Saturday 20th  March

U16 Girls League

Inter Kenmare 2 – 0 Killarney Athletic

Inter's under 16 girls won the Kerry District League on Saturday for the first time ever. This is a magnificent achievement as they have been trying to win this league for the last four years, and have finally gotten the better of Listowel in the league.

This was a good game and Killarney Celtic really tried hard but got no change out of Ger Cahalane and Michelle O’Connor at the back for Kenmare. The first half was scoreless, and with the wind in the second half at their backs, Inter ruled the second half. Rachel Hawker won a penalty that Claire O’Sullivan converted expertly, and Sarah Murphy put Siobhan Kennedy through for a second which she lobbed over the advancing ‘keeper.

All the girls played well in this one, and are delighted with their league win. A special mention must go to Kim Kennedy who has coached this team since u12s and is a great advert for coaching. There is one game left in the league, which will see the team presented with their trophy at home in Kenmare. Look out for the dates and be sure to be there to see it.

Saturday 20th  March

U11 Boy’s Premier

Iveragh 1-1 Inter Kenmare

Inter won a thrilling cup game away to Cahirciveen on penalties on Saturday. This was a game played on astro turf which makes it hard for visiting teams to win here. Inter went one down, but Denis Cronin scored lovely curling shot into the top corner, bringing the game into extra time.

This had coach Caroline Taylor tearing her hair out as this caused her to be late for a family christening (sorry Michelle and Pat) but there was little she could do about it.

There were no goals in extra time, and the game went to penalties.

Daniel Taylor showed no nerves and banged in the first penalty. Denis Cronin put the 2nd penalty into the top corner again. Dylan O’Connor, on his first game for Inter’s under 11s scored a super debut goal next. Cahirciveen missed, and |Chris O’Sullivan scored easily. Then Tom Looney the Inter keeper for the day made himself a hero with a super save to send Inter through. This helped the mood of the manager a bit, these players did not dare lose the shoot out !!!

This was a great effort from Inter who were reduced to a squad of 11, and Dylan O’Connor and William Gudgeon who were promoted from the B squad for the day and took their chances well.

Well done lads and best of luck in the next round.

Sunday 21st March

U11s play for Kerry

Sunday saw a great day for Inter as no less than 6 under 11 players lined out for Kerry under 11 teams in a tournament against Clare. All of the boys did themselves proud and showed up well among the best players in Kerry.

The all played 25 minutes, meaning each of them got a full half wearing the Kerry jersey. Daniel Taylor and Chris O’Sullivan played at full back, Fintan Davis was right-back also, Dara O’Siochriu was at centre-half, Tom O’Sullivan was up front and Denis Cronin who had a brilliant weekend all round was in midfield. Inter Kenmare are right up there with the best teams now at under 11s, and these players and their parents should be very proud of themselves.

Sunday 21st March

Division 1B

Castlemaine Utd 4-2 Inter Kenmare

Inter B’s lost on their last away league trip of the season to a very strong Castlemaine. Inter went one nil up when Paul Cassidy headed a free kick back across the box and Mattie Clifford finished a great move. Castlemaine equalised after a through ball just before half time, and went one up with a brilliant header after the half. Inter equalised with a Paul Cassidy header at the back post from an Eoin Finnegan corner, but lost two goals before the end. Inter had chances through Mark Granville at 3-2 and David Clifford at 4-2 but couldn’t score. Eoin Finnegan had a stonewall penalty turned down as well. Despite this, it has to be said that the better team won. Paul Cassidy gave a vintage performance in this game, Eoin Finnegan was very strong up front and Alan O’Sullivan was solid in goals. Special mention has to go to Kieran O’Shea and Mike O’Sullivan who both came on to make their senior debuts for the club and both showed up very well.

Inter Squad v Castlemaine away on 21/03/2010. Front l-r: M. Urbisch, M. Clifford, M. Granville, T. Crowley, A. O'Sullivan, Mark Granville, P. Cassidy. Back l-r: K. O'Shea, D. Clifford, E. Finnegan, M. O'Sullivan, D. O'Sullivan-Casey, I.Miles, M. O'Neill, C. Vaughan (Injured, Manager and dropped).

Friday 19th March

Coffee Morning a Great Success

A coffee morning was held in the Coachmans on Friday the 19th, which was a great event. The proceeds will be used to make more coffee – this time in a new kitchen at Inter Kenmare’s clubhouse. We’re waiting on the full list of everyone who took part in organising this event, but Kate Crowley-Holland, Kim Kennedy, Joanne Murphy and all the underage coaches and parents came up trumps and put on a great morning as usual.

March 2010

LCVP Work Experience

Inter Kenmare are delighted to get some free labour from Matthew Crowley-Holland from PobailScoil Inbhear Sceine who is conducting some of his work experience with the club. Matthew has compiled the reports for March and will also be helping out at the pitch with training and games

Sunday 7th March

Division 1B

Park B 2-2 Inter Kenmare B

Inter B’s picked up a valuable point at Park’s lovely new pitch in Tralee. A strong wind blowing across the pitch made conditions difficult for football, and the Park started well. Inter got into the game though, and managed a couple of breaks, with Yves Schoenamachers and Jason Taylor both having good chances. The breakthrough came in the 35th minute, when an Eoin Finnegan free kick was dropped by the ‘keeper, and Jason Taylor was the first to react. Taylor did score a second, but it was disallowed as one of the other attackers was offside. One nil at the break then, and a strong wind to face after half-time. The Park got into things quickly, and were 2-1 up within 15 minutes. The first was a through ball that wasn’t cleared, and the second was a free header from a corner. Things looked bleak at this stage, so Inter brought on two subs – John Granville and Ian Miles, who both did well. Sean O’Leary started to take over in midfield, and was unlucky not to get a penalty when he was clipped in the box. The same player got the equalizer in the next attack though, with a neat finish over the goalie after a 25-yard burst into the box. A good result on the road for the B’s was the final result. Great games from Sean O’Leary, Eoin Finnegan, Rob Hodnett and Jason Taylor.

Saturday 6th March

Under 13 Division 1

Inter 1-3 Ballyhar Dynamos

Ballyhar got the better of this one, even though Inter led 1-0 after a Reece Dillane goal. This means the under 13’s now have to make the most of their run of home games coming up.

Saturday 6th March

Girls U12 League

Inter Kenmare 2-0 Killarney Athletic

Brilliant result here for our new girls coach Birgit and her under-12 team. These are possibly the team in the best league position this year, and have a real chance of winning the league this year. They are a very organized team, Chloe Hawker looks the best player on the pitch every time they play, and Sinead O’Sullivan is a striker in top form. Aoife Brown is a deadly winger, and with speed and intelligence she set up two simple finishes for Sinead in this one. A good team, and a great result. More to come from this team we think.

Senior A Results

The senior A team have been enduring some tough games over the last couple of weeks, with some poor losses. The opposition must be put into context though – the top three or four teams in Kerry are among the best teams in Munster. For example Lisselton have cruised into the last 8 of the Munster Junior Cup, Killarney Athletic made the last 32 (from 700 entrants) in the FAI Junior cup. So results must be put into perspective, the senior team is improving all the time, is competing in the top division of 5 in the county, and have youth players coming through. A tough few weeks are behind them, and we hope to be reporting on some better news next month.

Under 13 Season Review to Date

Inter's U13's were have played 6 league games so far this season and 5 have been away from home. Their run in comprises 4 home league games, win them and they will be Division 1 league Champions! Their record to date is won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1. Their 2 draws have come in their last 2 away fixtures. The first was against Castlemaine on the 23/01/2010 and considering the pitch was partially frozen and  a freezing fog enveloped the ground creating an ethereal, ghostly feel to the proceedings, Inter were pleased to share the spoils with an Eric Burns effort in the first half and a Fionan O'Sullivan penalty in the second. On the 06/02/2010 Inter did well to escape from Mastergeeha with a draw after going 2 nil up, courtesy of a brace from the razor sharp Fionan O'Sullivan, and perhaps thinking the game was won they ended up bravely  withstanding a barrage of second half pressure from 'Geeha and some eccentric refereeing decisions, to take home an important point. This team has real potential and if they can successfully navigate their way through their final 4 home games they could have real reward for their efforts so far this season, not to mention the chance of a good run in the Kerry Cup. The panel this season has comprised of - Diarmuid Quill, David Cremin, Killian Spillane, David Hallissey, David Crowley, Alan Murphy Reeve, Fintan Kennedy, Joshua Crowley Holland, Sean Sheehy, Patrick Clifford, Fionan O'Sullivan, Reece Dillane, Paudie O'Sullivan, John Murphy, Dara O'Shea, Stephen O'Sullivan, Pat Spillane, Eric Burns, Ray O'Shea, Connor Murphy.

Kennedy Cup

At the beginning of February the moment came for the U13 Kennedy Cup panel to be trimmed from 36 players down to a final 26 and a letter was sent to all 36 players with news of the coaches decision. Joshua Crowley Holland was successful and is continuing to  train on Sundays and Wednesday evenings with the Kennedy Cup panel. They will be going on a tour of Wales at Easter, and will be playing County Clare on a home and away basis as preparation for the Kennedy Cup. At the Kennedy cup in mid June the boys will play 5 games in 4 days, and each game will be assessed by FAI coaches who will be working with the U15 Irish manager and his staff. 45 players will be chosen from the 600 playing in the Kennedy Cup for trials to get into the Irish U15 squad of 30 players. Good players who do not make the trials will be chosen to take part next season in the Regional Emerging Talent Program run by the FAI at the IT in Tralee for players from North Munster. Joshua has done well to get this far as 90 boys trialled for the Kennedy Cup back in October 2009, he has shown tremendous dedication and spirit and all at the club wish him the very best.

Ladies Soccer

Inter Kenmare’s delegate to the KDL Board at the last county meeting that the correct focus be put on ladies soccer, and that a ladies senior league be commenced for the season as soon as possible. This was accepted by the board, and they committed to getting this underway as soon as possible. So its time to start thinking about making a move into ladies soccer. If you’re interested, check http://www.interkenmare.com/ for contact details.

Inter Kenmare News Feb 2010

Sunday 14th February

Senior Division 1B

Inter Kenmare B 3-3 Park B

The last time these teams met in Kenmare the result was a 6-6 draw. This game was also an entertaining one. Inter had their best start to a game all season, racing into a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes. The first goal had a touch of luck about it, with the Park ‘keeper misjudging an Ian Miles cross and waving it into the net. The second was a well-worked goal, David Clifford winning the ball, working a one-two with John Granville and then putting Derdie Casey through for a super left-foot shot from 15 yards.

Inter fell asleep though after this, and lost possession on the right side twice, and Park got through for two identical goals. And from a corner, Park’s excellent centre-half got a fine header to give them the lead at half-time. Inter got into the game well in the second half though, and Eoin Finnegan stormed into the game at right back. Inter had a few chances with Yves Shconamachers nearly connecting with a low cross. Inter did make the breakthrough when John Granville put David Clifford through, and he finished neatly to bring Inter level. There were no clear chances for the rest of the game, but Gary Cassidy finished off a fine performance with three commanding high catches from high balls as the game wound down.

Overall, Inter are happy with a draw at home to the league leaders, and will try and build on this for the rest of the season now.

Saturday 13th February

U-14 Division 1

Inter 1 -3 Clanmaurice

Inter, who were top before this game, got a nast shock against the Lixnaw-based North Kerry team in this one. Clanmauroce were a well-coached and clever team, and now have given Inter’s under 14’s a reason to train andwork even harder now for the rest of the season. Cillian Spillane got the goal, dean Cassidy was good, but Inter couln’t get on top.

Sunday 7th February

Greyhound Bar KO Cup

Mastergeeha 1-5 Inter Kenmare

Two wins in a row now for Inter, and this win sees them into the last 16 of the main cup competition. Inter took the lead in the first half, with a well-worked goal for Mike Hussey after a Steven O’Shea assist.  Immediately after half-time Mastergeeha equalised, and it looked like this was going to be a tight affair. However Inter really clicked into gear and showed the gap between the teams by scoring no less than four goals in quick succession. Steven O’Shea, Shannon Ryan (with a nice chip), and Ronan Hussey (2) with one massive effort from just inside the half-way line were the scorers.

This is as good a scoreline the “A” team have put up for a number of seasons, and leaves them a game away from the cup quarter finals, as well as keeping momentum up coming into the last third of the season. Steven O’Shea was back to his best for this game, Shannon Ryan and Mike Hussey kept their scoring runs going, and Dan Cahalane had a good outing in a new position at the back.

Sunday 31st January

Division 1B

Behy Rovers 3-1 Inter Kenmare

Inter made the trip to Behy (near Rossbeigh beach) with a strong squad and with real hope of picking up a couple of points. And their were real chances in this game, with David Clifford hitting the post and having two shots saved, Derdie Casey keeping his good form going, and Eoin Finnegan showing up well in the second half. But sloppy defending meant that Behy got three goals (one assisted on the way in by our right back), and all Inter could manage was a Ken O’Sullivan header in response. This was a disappointing result, and the hope is that the B team can now bounce back from this and finish the season strongly.

Saturday 30th  January

Under 11 Premier

Inter Kenmare 3-3 Killarney Athletic

This was a great game to watch where Inter picked up a valuable point against a strong Athletic team. Chris O’Sullivan-Casey really showed what he is capable of in this game, and pressured the Athletic Defence all day long. Denis Cronin and Tom PO O’Sullivan tormented the Killarney full-backs with good play on the wings, and both passed the ball off well to the forwards.

Ciaran Crowley, Sean Casey and Daniel Taylor got forward really well and ran the show in midfield, with some clever passing and strong running. Dara O’Siochriu, Simon O’Shea, Aaron Morriss and Fintan Davies (new to the position of  left back) were very assured, and had to beat at the back.

John Crowley made some good saves and has started to keep his defenders on their toes very well in recent weeks. Eugene Sweeney William Sheehy and Darren Maye all came on and ran their hearts out, to make this a full 14-man effort.

It can be disappointing not to pick up full points in games like this, but these players showed good discipline, played football in the correct way, and gave a big crowd a great game to watch, so they can be very happy with their morning’s work here.

Under 11 B

Inter Kenmare 0-2 Park B

Inter had 80% of the possession in this one, but could not find the back of the net. Park B travelled with their usual big numbers of players, and they were surprised at the improvements in Inter’s B team since last year – they admitted to feeling guilty about leaving with all three points. Tom Looney, Daragh O’ Tuama were the best two players on the day, but this under 11 team are the most improving team in the whole club at this stage, and if they keep it up there will be some great results before the end of the season.

Saturday 6th February

Under 16 Girls League

Listowel 2-3 Inter Kenmare

This was a huge win, this is the first time Inter girls have beaten Listowel at this age group. Listowel are one of the best ladies clubs in the country, and recently won the Irish junior club competition.

After a long wait to start the season the U16 girls top the table with 3 wins.
We travelled to Listowel on Saturday and proved that Inter girls can compete with Listowel.   The girls were outstanding, every one of them and so determined to beat Listowel, especially as for many of them this is their last year at underage soccer.  It was such a tense game, Our goalkeeper Michelle O'Connor had come out for a ball in the second half and one of the Listowel players had caught her hand when she was on the ground.  Michelle, being so determined, would not give into the pain and still carried on through the game making great saves only to find out that she had broken her thumb.  Michelle will be a big loss for the team. We wish her a speedy recovery.
The game was 2 all  with mins to go when Inter were given a free kick. Katie O'Shea came up from defence to take the kick and hit it into the box to be nudged in by our super new signing for this year Caroline McCarthy.  A hatrick for our new striker. Inter 3  Listowel 2.

This was a huge win, this is the first time Inter girls have beaten Listowel at this age group. Listowel are one of the best ladies clubs in the country, and recently won the Irish junior club competition.

I have to say this team has improved so much over the last year and played last week with so much passion.  Let's hope that this is their year.

This win is a reflection of the great work done by Kim Kennedy, Lisa O’Shea and all the ladies coaches over the last number of years.

Saturday     13th February

U14 Girls League

Mastergeeha 0-5 Inter Kenmare

The under 14 girls continued their recent good form to record another big win against Mastergeeha. This means they have two wins and a single loss from three games. We’re currently looking for a manager to take over this team – hopefully there will be a queue to take over a team in such a good league position. Let us know if you’re interested.

Fundraising and Volunteering

As always with the way the club is developing the club, fundraising activites are needed. We hosted a Quiz night ion the Coachmans on  Friday Feb 12th, and would like to thank everyone who supported us on the night. The “Last minute” team of Jim Kennedy, Cian O’Siochrú and Joy Clifford won on the night. Thanks to Majella O’Sullivan who put a brilliant quiz together, and Darren Casey and Aoife Mullins who helped out with judging and correcting on the night.

We will be announcing another major fundraiser for the club in the coming weeks. Watch this space, as this will be something which ahs never been done in Kenmare before and will generate huge interest.

Our junior section are completing the latest round of “Code of Ethics” work, which involves a huge body of work involving coach education and Garda Vetting to make sure that all the underage sections of the club are looked after in the best way possible. This is going well, and Michelle O’Connell and John Holland should be commended for their work in this area.

We are constantly looking for new volunteers – the cold winter evenings are coming to an end, and getting involved with a team is a great way to have fun and also get some outside activity. Contact Charlie Vaughan on 086-8188858 if you want to help out in any way, you’ll be looked after with coach training and help from the start.

Sunday 24th January

Premier A

Inter Kenmare 2-1 Camp Utd

Inter’s As got a brilliant home win against Camp on Sunday. This will go down as the best Inter performance in a long time, this one was won by out-playing Camp, and by taking chances.

Inter were well on top from the start, and Sean Murphy had three crosses from the right. He connected with Shannon Ryan with the third of these, and Shannon side-footed a volley home from 18 yards. Inter couldn’t get a second and so went into the second half with a one-nil lead.

The start of the second half was quiet, with Inter reluctant to attack two much, and closing Camp down. And with 20 minutes to go, Camp started to throw everything at this game. They finally scored, where their left winger beat Shane Dalton and sent in a low cross which deceived ‘keeper Alan O’Sullivan and went all the way to the net.

The way Inter responded though was really encouraging. Camp sense three points and drove on. But Philip Duggan really stepped up, first with a 40-yard burst through the middle, and then joining the attack from the back to narrowly side-foot over. Connie Cremin then had a 30-yard right-foot shot touched onto the post. Mike Hussey was chopped down with only the goalie to beat, but the ref let the culprit off. With two minutes left, Sean Murphy made a break down the right, beat two players, and squared for Mike Hussey to get his first Inter goal. Philip Duggan, Connie Cremin and Sean Murphy led the way for Inter in this one.

Division 1 B

Inter Kenmare 2-2 Castlemaine

Super result here for the B’s, coming back from being a goal down twice. Ian Miles got Inter’s first, a great strike from 20 yards out on the right.

Dermot O’Sullivan scored the second, an even better chest-down-and-left-foot-volley into the corner of the goals. Inter held out towards the end, and actually had a chance to win this but a draw was probably a fair result.

It was great to be back in action last weekend after the bad spell of weather, and it’s great to see that the pitch at Inter Kenmare Park has survived the bad weather. We have played in excess of 50 games on the field so far this season, and it is holding up really well. There haven’t been many games played in all of Kerry over the last number of weekends, so we have players of all ages and grades itching to get back in action. This weekend, we have the following home games down for decision on Saturday the 23rd:

Under 11 Boys Premier               Inter v Listowel 10.30

Under 11 Boys Division 1           Inter v Killarney Celtic 11.45

Under 16 Girls Premier                Inter v Mastergeeha 1.00

Do your best to come up and watch on Saturday, these should be three good games.

We have two Senior games down for Sunday the 24th:

Division 1 B                                 Inter v Castlemaine Utd 12.30

Premier A                                     Inter v Camp United 2.30

Match Reports

Sunday 17th January

Premier A

Killarney Athletic 3 – 0  Inter Kenmare.

Inter’s seniors went down to a very impressive Killarney Athletic side in Killarney.     We had good performances from a few players such as Ger O’Dwyer and Connie Cremin, but couldn’t stop a very quick Athletic from bagging three goals and three points.

Division 1B

Killarney Athletic B 0 – 3 Inter Kenmare B

Our B’s were also beaten three nil by the same opposition to round off a bad afternoon. Sean Murphy and Mark Granville were two of our better players on the day. We were a little bit unlucky in this one, half-time was 0-0 and had a penalty turned down, but Athletic were very impressive in the way they pulled away in the second half.

Saturday 16th January

Under 14 Division 1

Inter Kenmare 6-0 Park “B

Inter continued their very impressive run towards the top of division 1 with another huge home win. Dan Hawker got two goals, so did Ryan Van Der Venter, and John Breen came off the bench to get two very impressive goals. This team is on a serious roll and are worth watching for league honours.

Under 16 Premier

Inter Kenmare 0 – 4 Killarney Celtic

The under 16s came up against a very serious Killarney Celtic outfit on Saturday, and went down 4-0. To their credit, they didn’t give up at any stage and should really have scored one or two.

Quiz Coming Up

The first Inter Quiz night for 2010 is planned for the Coachmans on Friday Feb 12th in the Coachmans. Look out for local advertising closer to the event and please do your best to put in a team.

Kennedy Cup Update

We promised to keep you up to date on the progress of our players with Kerry squads. This week it’s the turn of Josh Crowley-Holland, who is the sole Inter player who has made it into the “last-32” of the Kennedy Cup squad. The Kennedy Cup (under 13) is probably the most prestigious of the under-age intercounty competitions, and Kerry are one of the top seeds for the competition. Being the only fella from Inter among a squad of 32 is tough, and we hope Josh can stick with it and get into that final squad for the competition. If he does, you’ll read about it here.

Congratulations to:

Paul Cassidy who had a huge 50th Birthday party recently in the Coachmans – at 50.

Joseph Sheehan who had his 21st recently.

And finally to Michelle O’Sullivan-Casey and Pat on the birth of their baby boy, Patrick.

Saturday 5th December

Under 13 Div 1 South

Inter Kenmare 4-0 Castlemaine

Inter’s u13s are flying in this division, and moved to the top of the league with a 4-0 win over Castlemaine. Fionan O’Sullivan kept his run of goals going here, opening the scoring with a clever header after 10 minutes. And before half-time, Josh Crowley-Holland opened up the defence with a through ball, and Fionan made it 2-0. Inter turned to play with a strong wind, and had little trouble in dealing with Castlemaine in the second half. Cillian Spillane managed to make it up from centre-back to bag two goals in the second half.

Saturday 5th December

Under 15 Premier

Inter Kenmare 4-1Killarney Athletic

Inter’s Under 15s are also flying, and managed to give Killarney Athletic a sound beating at home in poor weather conditions. Scorers were Brian Clifford (2), Denis O’Neill and Brian Crowley. This is a great result, Athletic are one of the traditionally strong underage teams, so this is an indication of the progress being made by Inter.

Girls U14 League

Inter Kenmare 2-4 Killarney Celtic

We lost this one 4-2, but best for Inter were Denise Burns & Caroline McCarthy (scored 2), plus great work by Yvonne O'Connell in goal.

Inter will re-introduce 'soccer sisters', with FAI rep, after Christmas in the hope of recruiting new players. This is a “girls-only” soccer program run over a number of weeks. The FAI give great help with coaching and equipment for the course, and this is great fun. Look out for local advertisement after Christmas.

Sunday Nov 29th

Premier Mens A

Inter Kenmare 2-3 Killarney Athletic

Inter lost 3-2 at home but we had good performances by Stevie O'Shea (1), Phillip Duggan (1.pen), Connie Cremin, Ger O'Dwyer, Gary Cassidy and a good 2nd half by Dan Cahalane.

At the awards night last Friday, CHarlie vaughan from BT was delighted to hand over the set to John Holland , Inter's Youth Liasion Officer. The set of Jerseys will be shared across all the underage youth teams and will come in very handy as the season goes on. We'll be posting a picture of the kit shortly.

 Sat 28th November

National Cup u16

Nenagh AFC 3-3 Inter Kenmare

            4-2 (Pens)

Inter Kenmare’s Under 16s had to travel as far as North Tipperary to play in the National Cup on Saturday. To add to their difficulties, manager Ian Miles was away for the weekend. Luckily Michelle O’Connell stepped in for the day (6 hours travelling and a game, in a bus with 11 rowdy 16-year-olds).

The boys travelled with a small squad, but they put together a brilliant team spirit for the day. Inter went one up after only ten minutes through Tadgh Morley. Nenagh equalised befor half time with a penalty for a hand ball – the Inter defender was unlucky to get penalised apparently. Nenagh went two up and looked home and dry until Tadgh Morley got an equaliser with two minutes left. This meant the game had to go to extra time. Again nenagh took the lead, and again Tadgh Morley equalised – he had a really great game. This brought the tie to penalties, with the Inter team shattered at this stage. Tadgh Morley (no shock there) and Kieran Fitzgibbon scored their penalties, but Nenagh scored four to win the tie. Best for Inter were Niall O’Sullivan, John Moriarty and Tadgh Morley, but the whole team did the club proud on the day. Thanks lads, and thanks Michelle.Sat 28th November

Inter Kenmare Club Rooms Handed Over

Inter Kenmare’s new club dressing rooms and clubhouse has been officially handed over.

This is brilliant news for the club. Already we’re seeing the benefits with things being much easier hosting visiting teams, giving referees somewhere to get changed, hosting meetings and everything associated with the running of the club.

The project has been run brilliantly, and the building committee of John Holland, Jimmy O’Sullivan, Dan Keane and Conor Murphy are no doubt delighted with the fruits of their efforts over the last number of years to bring this to fruition. The building committee have brought all their personal experience in project management, building, legal expertise and plain hard work to work through any problems that were encountered and to save the club a small fortune through their efforts.

We’d like to give a mention to the developers of the building – Kenmare Plant Hire – who really treated this like they were working for the community and put in the extra effort for the club. Also, adding an engineer to the project on behalf of the club – Stuart Smith – was a great move, and Stuart also treated the project like a community effort and went beyond the call of duty,

Feel free to come up and check out the facilities any time there’s a home game on. You might even get a cup of tea at half time. This building has been completed on time and within budget. With grant aid, prudent spending and fundraising we have been left with a manageable deficit, which will be paid over the next number of years. We would like to thank the people of Kenmare and surrounding areas so far for their support and have no doubt they will continue to help out the club in the future.

The attached photo taken on the day the club house was completed shows (L-R Dan Keane, Conor Murphy, John Holland (signing the acceptance letter) Michael O’Se (KPH) and Jimmy O’Sullivan.

Friday November 20th

Inter Kenmare Awards Night

The Inter Kenmare Awards Night was on November 20th in The Coachmans, with a big turn-out from across all sections of the club. The night was a great success -  we have moved away form the old social format to an informal night, which is cheaper for people to attend and results in a more enjoyable night. The senior players – Philip Duggan, Shane Dalton, Paul and Gary Cassidy, Shannon Ryan and Michael O’Connor put in a big effort for the night, Eoin Finnegan provided the music and sound system and the food from our great senior sponsors, The Coachmans, was great, and there was loads of it. We havs to give a mention to one of the unsung heroes, Karen Mullins, who spent the week helping Philip get ready for this and gets very little credit (except from Philip obviously).

The winners on the night were the 2008-2009 ladies team who were presented with their trophies for winning the KDL ladies league. They also cleaned up in the raffle, winning most of the prizes there too.

The youths and senior A’s from ‘08/’09 picked up trophies for reaching the cup final and coming second in their league respectively.

The following awards were handed out:

Young Player of the Year:                                          Aaron O’Callaghan

B Players’ Player of the Year:                                    Robert Hodnett

B Manager’s Player of the Year:                                Joseph Sheehan

A Players’ Player of the Year:                                    Steven O’Shea

A Manager’s Player of the Year:                                P.J. Reidy

Club Personality of the Year:                                     Charlie Vaughan

We’re collecting pictures from the event and have been putting them in the photo gallery section as we get them in. Aoife Mullins has offered to spice up our pictures (well at least she said son late Friday night) so look out for those. In the meantime heres a picture of a delighted PJ Reidy with Chairman Alan O'Sullivan

Saturday November 21st

Under 13 Premier

Iveragh 2-3 Inter Kenmare

Inter under 13s won 3-2 away to Iveragh in Cahirsiveen on Saturday. The goals came from Fionán O’Sullivan (who nabbed two) and a 35-yard roof of the net screamer from a John Murphy free kick. We’re not quite sure how you can get the ball into the roof of the net from 35 yards, but John managed it. David Cremin was very assured and skilful in defence, and Inter were delighted with the win. It’s great to see Fionán among the goals, on his day he is the best under 13 striker in Kerry and a run of form could see great things this year for the team.

Awards Night on Friday the 20th

The Inter Kenmare Awards Night is on this Friday, the 20th, in the Coachmans at 9pm. Entry is a measley ten euro, and a good night is guaranteed. The successful youths, ladies and senior teams from last year will be getting trophies, as well as awards for youths, B and Senior players of the year. This is always a good night out, this has none of the formalities of a social. Our senior players put a lot of effort into organising this, no profit is made on the night so the focus is purely on enjoying ourselves. Come along, and bring a friend. Division 1 B

Inter Kenmare B 2-0 CS Cloghain Breannain

Inter’s B team got their first win of the season against CSCB from Brandon Head at home on Sunday. The Bs have been working hard and played some really nice football on a perfect surface at home. From the first minute Inter passed the ball really well, and the midfield two of Eoin Finnegan and Jason Taylor were finding their men and nearly put David Clifford and Derdie Casey through on a number of occasions. David had a good shot saved on 20 minutes, and Derdie had a couple of shots blocked. Inter set up camp in CSCBs half but couldn’t score. After half time Inter kept it up, and soon threatened the goals – Rob Hodnett was blocked on the line, David Clifford had a shot saved, Yves Schoenamachers had a shot saved (great stop) and Ian Miles had a great effort with his left. But finally Yves put David Clifford through, and he found the corner from 18 yards for his first goal for Inter. Soon after Yves put Derdie Casey in, and he buried the chance. Inter were rampant at this stage, and should really have scored more, but were happy with the three points. No way of singling out players on this performance, everyone from 1 to 14 can be happy with their day.

Inter Kenmare Club House Completion

Inter Kenmare’s Club House has finally been completed, and has been handed over officially by the builders, Kenmare Plant Hire. All at the club are delighted with the new building. This gives us four dressing rooms plus a ref’s room, a kitchen area, a meeting room, public toilets, storage room and plenty of room for future expansion. The building has been finished to a really high standard, and means we can now comfortably host games with multiple teams and look after visiting teams properly afterwards. Running a Saturday with boys and girls games, visiting teams, tea/coffee/sandwiches has now become a lot easier. Training on cold winter nights is now that bit easier with the thought of a hot shower. There are some finishing touches to be added to the building now – painting, kitchen fit-out etc., and once these have been completed we will move ahead with a formal opening. If anyone is willing to help out with fitting out the club rooms let us know – just call up any Saturday when there are games on and speak to one of the committee.

We have been fundraising for the club consistently for years now, and would like to thank the people of Kenmare and beyond for all their support to date. Finally having a substantial building to show for the club’s efforts is great.

Awards Night Coming Up

The Inter Kenmare Awards Night will be held on November 20th next. The decision has been taken to move this forward so the night is held while last season is still in the memory. For the first time in a number of years, we will have plenty of silverware at this night, and the successful Senior A, Ladies and Youth Teams from last year will be honoured. Keep the date in your diary. This will be a great night out and won’t break the bank. For the first time in a number of years, silverware will be given out to successful teams and this is a night not to be missed. Last season was a great one – we won the Ladies League, got to a youths cup final, our A team got to a League Final and got back into the Premier A, we started work on a club-house, had a very successful sevens, ran our biggest ever fundraisers, and much more. We think it is a season worth celebrating and would like all members and supporters of the club to join us in the Coachmans at 9pm. Look out locally for posters and adverts.

Sunday 25th October

Division 1 B

CS Clogheann Breannain 2-1 Inter Kenmare

Inter B’s were desperately unlucky to lose a robust game played in Dingle. Inter started very well, and played by far the better football in the first half. David Clifford was causing havoc on the left wing, and his direct opponent was subbed off after 25 minutes. Despite having a number of chances, Inter couldn’t score though. Clogheann came into it in the second half, and scored a goal from a powerful shot by their striker. Inter broke back, and Paul Cassidy got on the end of an Yves Schonemachers corner to equalise. Soon after this Inter had a man sent off – this was a case of the home crowd getting on top of the referee, and in a double-blow conceded a goal from the free kick given in the incident. Andrew O’Leary came on and after what could have been called a dive (Andrew swears he was fouled) Inter got a penalty. It wasn’t converted though, with the post saving the ‘keeper. Inter finished out the game applying pressure, but couldn’t get the points.

Premier A

Inter Kenmare 2-6 Lisselton Rovers.

Bad day at the office again. Sean O’Leary, Sean Murphy scoring.

Sunday 1st November

Division 1B

Killarney Celtic 4 – 1 Inter Kenmare

Goal from Eoin Finnegan.

Premier A

Castleisland 1-1 Inter Kenmare

Inter’s A team went to league leaders Castleisland needing to get something and stop a run of defeats from becoming serious. There were doubts about the pitch being playable, but the decision was taken to drive on. This wasn’t a pitch for beautiful football, but Steven O’Shea managed to go on a mazy run on the right before crossing to Gerald O’Dwyer who smashed the ball home with a beautiful half volley to give Inter the lead. Gary Cassidy made a good save shortly afterwards, but the ball fell to Castleisland’s Pa O’Rourke who blasted the ball home.

From then on the game was tough and fair, and by all accounts very entertaining. With underfoot conditions so bad and the competitive nature of the game it was a great sign of the teams that it was played out sportingly. At the end, Inter were delighted with a 1-1 draw and a valuable away point. Inter’s best player on the day was Donal Casey, who practically got his won column in the Kingdom such was the write-up.

Sunday 8th November

Division 1B

Inter Kenmare B 2 – 6 Iveragh

Another awful day out for the B’s. Goals from matt Zoeller and Dermot O’Sullivan-Casey.

Saturday 7th November

Under 11 National Cup

Inter Kenmare 3-6 Ballynanty Rovers (Limerick)

Inter’s Under 11 second squad got a tough draw in the National cup, with a top team from Limerick coming to Kenmare. To make things worse, they lost the toss and had to play against a gale-force wind, complete with lashing rain and hailstones. Our team battled bravely, but left in four goals before half time. We feared the worst for the second half but Inter’s young team put in a brilliant second half to thrill everyone on the sideline. Jordan Schmidt will turn out to be some footballer if he keeps playing like this, and was excellent at left back. Denis Cronin ran the midfield and was better than anything the Limerick team had to offer in the second half. William Gudgeon, Tom Looney and Dara Twomey were better than their markers for the second half.

Denis Cronin, William Sheehy and Tom Looney got the goals to make it 6-3, and the Limerick boys were delighted when the final whistle blew.

The squad on the day was:

Goalie Martin Morgan, Jordan Schmidt, Gary Orpan, Gearoind Fennessy, Richard O’Sullivan, Denis Cronin, Tom Looney, William Gudgeon, Dara Twomey, William Sheehy, Padraig Dillon, Michael O’Sullivan.

Inter u-11s with Kerry Teams:

The following players are continuing to train with the Kerry under 11 academy:

Denis Cronin, Tom O’Sullivan, Chris O’Sullivan, Daniel Taylor. In addition (sorry lads, forgot your names last month) Dara O’Siochriu and Fintan Davis are with the squad. This makes it 6 Inter players on one Kerry squad. In addition to Kerry training, the lads are being careful not to neglect their own teams, and are showing great improvements in games. Watch this space for more news.

Inter Kenmare A.G.M

The AGM took place in the club rooms for the first time ever on Friday the 16th. This was well-attended and a good meeting took place, with a number of good discussions. A couple of club stalwarts – Paul Cassidy and Dan Keane – were elected back onto the committee after a couple of years off, and will make a great addition. The following officers and committee members were elected:

Alan O’Sullivan – Chairman, Charlie Vaughan – Secretary, Dennis O’Brien – Treasurer, John Holland - Youth Liaison Officer, Paul Cassidy – P.R.O. Jimmy O’Sullivan, Majella O’Sullivan, Donal O’Sullivan-Casey and Dan Keane were elected to the committee. One slot was not filled on the committee, but we expect one other valuable addition to the committee over the coming weeks.

Under 12 Coaching

Mark Granville and Gary Cassidy have come forward to help out the two guys with the under-12 team. Gary and Mark will bring some much-needed experience and coaching ability to help out the two young coaches – Barry Healy and Hugh Gudgeon, meaning that one of our most important underage teams now has a full coaching and management team. We predict that if the numbers at training on Wednesday afternoons increase, the results will follow.

Recent Results and Fixtures – the Highlights

The weather has been brilliant for the last number of weeks, and the recent work on the surface of Inter Kenmare Park has meant that we have been able to pack in loads of fixtures over the last month. There have been too many games in the last month to fit in here, so here’s the highlighted version.

Sunday 27th September

Inter Kenmare 1-2 Rinanna Rovers (Clare)

Ger O’Dwyer scored for Inter in a hugely competitive FAI Junior cup game at Inter Kenmare Park. Inter had their chances in this one but came out second-best to a good side from Clare.

Sunday 4th October

Premier A

Ratoo Rovers 2-2 Inter Kenmare

The dreaded trip to Ballyduff resulted in a 2-all draw for Inter, which is a good result, and will not be bettered by too many teams. Inter started badly, and were two-nil down before they got going. Inter got into the game though, and Derdie O-Sullivan Casey scored an excellent goal after a good passing move on 40 minutes. And after the half-time break, Alan O’Sullivan got the equaliser, with an unorthodox finish from eight yards. Inter held out and brought home the point.

Sunday 4th October

Division 1B

Inter Kenmare 1-5 Killarney Celtic

Goal: Mark Granville, penalty.

Saturday 10th October

U11 National Cup

Inter Kenmare A 0-1 Lifford United (Clare)

Inter played hosts to Lifford United from Clare in the second round of the national Cup, and were desperately unlucky to lose this one. Lifford had a man sent off in the first half, for use of bad language. They were one-nil up at this stage, but had very few shots at goal after this. Inter had shot after shot, and the Lifford ‘keeper put in a man of the match performance. Simon O’Shea was good for Kenmare, and showed great discipline when the Lifford player was sent off. Tom (P.O) O’Sullivan was Inter’s best player on the day. The Under 11’s have started the season well, and a number of them have been called up to the Kerry Development squad. So far, Tom O’Sullivan, Denis Cronin, Daniel Taylor, Chris O’Sullivan have been called up. We’ll keep you posted on their progress and let you know if any more players get the call.

U15 National Cup

Inter Kenmare 4-3 Corbally (Limerick)

This was the “Game of the Day” in Kerry, and what a game it turned out to be. Inter scored quickly, with Brian Clifford getting two goals in the first half. Corbally, who had travelled from Limerick, made it 2-1, before (might be wrong here) Gavin Crowley put Inter 3-1 up before the break. The second half was all Corbally, and their left winger scored a cracking goal from 30-yards, quickly followed by a penalty. At this stage Corbally were rampant, and John Hayes in goals made no fewer than five good saves. It looked like we were headed for extra time until Denis O’Neill chased down a defender and won a throw-in. From the throw Brian Clifford worked a good position and crossed to Cian Hallissey who showed great composure to slot home the winner. Brian Clifford, Cian Hallissey, Gavin Crowley, James DaSilva were all good for Inter, but the goalie, John Hayes gets the man of the match for this one.

Sunday 11th October

Premier A

Killorglin 2-3 Inter Kenmare

Great away win for Inter, and a nice bit of revenge over the team that beat us in the League Final last year. Connie Cremin, Steven O’Shea and Sean Murphy got the goals in this one. Alan O’Sullivan held the ball up very well up front, and Connie Cremin had a powerful game in midfield.

Division 1B

Inter Kenmare B 1-3 Killarney Athletic

Goal: Matt Zoeller, penalty.

Saturday 17th October

U12 Premier Division

Inter Kenmare 0-6 Killarney Celtic

U14 National Cup

Inter Kenmare 3-2 Broadford Celtic (Limerick)

Another headline clash for Inter, with a home draw in the national cup to a good team from Limerick. Inter put in a powerful performance to win this one. They struggled in the first half, except for a Patrick Clifford goal. James Da Dilva and Cillian Harrington were best in a busy backline, but were unable to stop Broadford going 2-1 up. Inter put in a great second-half performance though. Ryan Fitzpatrick bossed the midfield, Cillian Spillane (despite giving away two years to most players) showed some lovely touches, and Ryan VanDer Venter got on top of the main striker for Broadford. Inter started to make chances, and Patrick Clifford equalised with ten minutes left. Inter drove forward from there, and Daniel Hawker volleyed home a dropping ball in the box to give Inter the win with a classic goal. Great day all round.

Saturday 17th October

U16 Premier League

Castlemaine Utd 2-3 Inter Kenmare

Brian Clifford was best for Inter, who travelled with the bare numbers to this one. His two goals were enough to give Inter the win. The other teams in the division won’t be as forgiving as Castlemaine though, and the under 16s need to get themselves sorted, and if they show the right levels of commitment there is a serious chance of doing something in this division.

Sunday 18th Oct 09

Division 1B

Castleisland B 2-2 Inter Kenmare B

Inter Kenmare’s A team were down a number of players, so 6 players were drawn from the B squad. Joseph Sheehan and Sean Sheehan were both unavailable. Throw in the fact that this was an away game, and Castleisland had no A game meaning their squad players were available to play B, and this left a difficult task. Castleisland started well, and got a dubious penalty for handball after 25 minutes. The first penalty had to be re-taken, and Ronan Twomey saved the second one, but the rebound was tucked away. Ten minutes later, a 35-yard shot went over his head into the net, great strike and 2-0. Things were not looking good. From the kick-off though, a number of Inter players got going though. Jason Taylor started to win headers around the middle, and Mark Granville and Eoin Finnegan started to get on the ball. David Clifford and Rob Hodnett started to combine on the left, and Steven O’Leary showed some good touches up front, and bought Inter into the game. Steven had Inter’s first shot after 35 minutes. At this stage Inter were on top, and Jason Taylor was cynically fouled on the edge of the box. Up stepped Andrew O’Leary to hammer home the free kick. Inter kept on top at the start of the second half, and David Clifford and Steven O’Leary both had chances saved. After seven minutes, David put Steven through, and he was fouled just inside the box. Mark Granville buried the penalty. To be fair, Castleisland got on top from here, but Inter defended brilliantly. We had great saves from Ron Twomey, good defensive headers from Taylor, a great last-ditch tackle from Mike Granville and finally help from the posts (both of them) in the closing minutes. Inter were playing on the break at this stage, and Andrew and Steven O’Leary and David Clifford all nearly got through – stopped by yellow-card tackles each time. The game finished 2-2 and the B’s were very pleased with their first point of the season.

Website on a Break

Your website maintainer is taking a well-deserved holiday, and will be back on October 6th, so be patient, I'll put in more updates then. Cheers.

Big Game Sunday

The First Round of the FAI Junior Cup is on Sunday. This is a national competition, with over 750 teams entered this year. For what we think is the 6th game in a row, Inter have pulled a home draw out of the hat, and face Rinanna Rovers from Clare at home on Sunday. The Clare team play in the top division in Clare, and have started their season with one win and one loss.

Rinanna keep a low profile, and we haven't been able to find out much, so we can't make a prediction on the game, other than to point out that three hours on the way to the game in a bus won't be a big help to them.  The winners of the game face Broadford Celtic from Limerck, again at home, in the next round, so ourboys will be going all out for this one.

Do your best to come out and support the team, kickoff is at 2.30 at Inter Kenmare Park, followed by our B team against Killarney Celtic, 4.30.

Sunday Sep 13th

Premier A

Inter Kenmare 3-0 Tralee Dynamos

Report by A Team Correspondant

On a scorching day at Inter Kenmare Park, Inter lined out with a 4-1-4-1 formation setting themselves up not to concede early as had happened in the past. The start of the game was tame with both teams feeling each other out for the first half hour. As the game progressed Inter began to dominate the possession. Donal Casey and Philip Duggan mopped up everything at the back allowing Steven O'Shea and Shannon Ryan to build from midfield and spray the ball out the wings. Inter then missed a brace of chances, with Gerald O'Dwyer going close on a few occasions including one near post header that just flew over. Inter remained calm however and after Sean Murphy spurned a couple chances of his own, he made up for it with a excellent run down the right, turn inside the full back and shot to the far corner to send Inter into a deserved 1-0 lead just before half time. The break came as a welcome to all as the heat was searing now, PJ Reidy was on top form with water and ice packs to keep the Inter boys cool!

The second half began as the first ended, Inter quickly picked up where they left off. The young Dynamos side were losing the physical battle and found it very hard to create any decent chances with Martin, Mike Kitty and Shane Dalton taking no prisoners at the back. Inter were then awarded a somewhat soft penalty when another mazy run from Steven O'Shea ended in him being pulled back in the box by one of the Dynamos defenders. The penalty decision probably culminated from multiple fouls on Steven on the day due to his excellent trickery. Philip Duggan the nominated spot kick taker for the season duly stepped up and (after some silly antics from the Dynamos keeper) calmly slotted home to make it 2-0. Moments later, in another fast Inter counter attack Sean Leary made an excellent run down the left and slide the ball through for Gerald O'Dwyer to slot home and effectively kill the game 3-0. Leary may have had one himself seconds later when a ball fell to him at the edge of the square but he dummied away from the trusty left leg and scuffed the shot with his right. Derdy Casey and Paul Cassidy came on late to both prove effective in Inter comfortably seeing out the game.

Everyone played well in what was a great day for the A's and a great start to the season. Inter will know there will be tougher challenges ahead as the inexperienced Dynamos side could well be relegation contenders. Non the less it was an efficient performance, and with about 5/6 more players to join the squad providing healthy competition, new kits and new dressing rooms, a new chapter is unfolding in Inter Kenmare's history.

Division 1B

Dingle Bay Rovers 6 – 2 Inter Kenmare B

Bad beating for Inter Bs against Dingle who played in the top league in Kerry last year. A number of Inter players are just learning the game at senior level. Mattie and David Clifford and Yves Schoenamachers could not be faulted at all on the day. Liam Fox also came on to make his adult debut for the club. The goals came from Mattie Clifford (pen) after Jason Taylor was fouled and then a free kick from Andrew O’Leary which was a classic. Dingle got a pile of goals which could be stopped on another day, and improvement is needed. We have every reason to think these improvements can be made though.

Soccathon

The Annual Inter Kenmare Soccathon took place on Saturday the 29th of August, at Inter Kenmare Park. The first ball was kicked at 10am, and people were still in place at 8pm that night. This must have been the only dry day during the month of August this year, and the bravery of the organisers in running the games and the function at Inter Kenmare Park really paid off. Over 100 players took part, and the bouncy castle and human fussball proved a great hit with young and old alike. Refreshments were served all day and in the evening the atmosphere was embellished by Eoin Finnegan's disco and the smell of sausages and burgers sizzling on the BBQ!  The catering – both on the BBQ in the evening and all day in the shop was fantastic. The usual parents need to take a bow again after another brilliant setup.

Many thanks to all those who made the day such a success your help is appreciated and not forgotten. All of the awards from the day will be listed on the Inter website – http://www.interkenmare.com/, but some of the highlights from the awards are listed below.

New  Under Age Season – New Coaches

The new season is just upon us, and final preparations are being made to teams and pitches. Inter are continuing with a large number if underage teams this year, and we have great hopes for a number of teams – the Under 12s and Under 11s are really strong this year, the under 15 team will try and build on last year’s big league win, and all of the girls teams continue to get better. Hopefully this will be the year Inter makes the breakthrough and wins that first girls league.

Many thanks to all the parents who gave lifts to away matches for last season. Please note we need new coaches for our under age teams, and particularly our string Under 12 side. If you are interested in coaching please contact John Holland on 0872362227. You won’t be left in charge of a team on your own, and full support and FAI coaching will be provided. If you find yourself watching most of the games anyway on a Saturday morning, then the leap into coaching may not be as big as you think. Also, this isn’t confined to Dads – Caroline Taylor, Kim Kennedy, Michelle O’Sullivan and Lisa O’Shea are four of the best coaches in the club and a good example to all of the ladies out there who could be coaching girls and boys teams.

B Season Underway

The Inter B team season has started for the year. The Inter A team are focusing on getting a solid start to the season and have a dedicated panel of 26 players, meaning the B team need to be better-organised and have a larger playing panel than most teams who can draw on players from the A panel. The teams in Killarney and Tralee can also use players from their main squads to bolster a B team, as they can make both games on a Sunday. Unfortunately, we can’t do this as the distances between Kenmare and other venues are too long to make it. Finally, Inter’s second team is in a higher league than other teams, such as the Park. This means that our second team comes up against other club’s first teams, which can be hard.

The club have turned this situation into a positive one. We currently have more than 30 adult players training regularly, as well as a large group of over-35s. We have more registered senior players than any other club in the Kerry District League, and have no problem fulfilling fixtures at opposite ends of the county at the same time. This may result in the Bs getting beaten from time to time, but the net result is that more players get games, and that the club as a whole benefits. Training is underway on Thursday or Friday nights. If you want to be notified when training is on, please contact Charlie Vaughan at 086-8188858 or charlie.vaughan@bt.com.

Sunday Sep 6th

Division 1B

Iveragh Utd 3-1 Inter Kenmare B

The first game of the season, played on Astro Turf in Cahirsiveen, saw Inter take the lead after ten minutes when Eoin Finnegan hit the top corner after receiving the ball from a short corner. Inter had a good wind behind them for the first half, and with Matt Zoeller and Paul Cassidy good at the back, had no real trouble keeping the score at 1-0 at the half. Iveragh were excellent in the second half, and moved the ball from side to side very well. They eventually got through and their striker was fouled for a penalty, which made it 1-1. And with 5 minutes left they got the second, and when Inter tried to get an equaliser, they got a third just at the final whistle. Looks like Iveragh and Dingle will be two clubs to beat in this division.

Dressing Rooms Update

The Club House Development is just coming to an end. Footpaths have been laid, and the builders are currently finishing off the final pieces on the inside of the dressing rooms. The committee have decided to wait until the work is completely finished before moving in, so please be patient for a couple of weeks. Everything looks great inside, and the decision has been made to include a full kitchen in the facilities as well. The winter Saturdays and Sundays will be a lot easier with a covered area outside the dressing rooms to watch the games from.

Facilities Update

As well as looking after the building development, some long-needed investments have been made on the playing pitches recently. Both pitches have been “spiked” for drainage, 80 tonnes of sand have been spread, some new parking spaces have been made available and some draininge improvements have been made to the road into the pitches. Hopefully there will be less rain this winter, but if there is, we’re making every effort to be prepared for it J.

Senior Team Sponsorship

Just in time for this month’s Kenmare News, Inter Kenmare are delighted to announce that McSweeneys Pharmacy from Kenmare Shopping Centre as well as Jako Sports Ireland have come on board as senior team sponsors for the 2009-2010 season. This is a fantastic deal for the club, and is a direct follow-on from the 2009 Inter 7s Sponsorship.

This is a sponsorship deal which matches anything seen in the Kerry League this year. For the 2009-2010 the senior team will have brand new home and away kits – shorts and socks included, and in order to support the club players (who have membershuip paid) will have the opportunity to get the full range of kit – jackets, sweatshirt, tracksuit, polo shirt and kitbag at discounted prices. McSweeney’s Pharmacy and Jako Sports will then continue their involvement by acting as a “club shop” for the club – anyone that wants something from the Inter Kenmare range will be able to walk into the pharmacy, look at a sample and order it. Look in local press for the official launch details.

This is also beneficial for Inter as out long-standing Club Sponsors, The Coachmans can stay in place, and will continue to host club functions throughout the year.

More Sponsorship

BT Ireland have also announced recently that they will award Inter Kenmare with a full playing kit for the 2009-2010 season, as part of their Community Champions programme. This will be a white kit, and will cover as an “away” kit for a number of our teams.
